Objectives of the Regional Centre
- Support implementation of the requirements and measures in the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (in line with decisions SC-2/9 and SC-3/9) and build capacities for POPs monitoring, data analysis, risk assessment, environmental modelling, data analyses, ecotoxicology and risk assessment.
- Enhance implementation of Minamata, Rotterdam and Basel Conventions and strengthen SAICM beyond 2020 global chemicals management
- Contribute to finding solutions of triple planetary crisis (jointly addressing pollution, climate change and biodiversity loss)
- Strengthen laboratory infrastructures and networks and contribute to efficient data management and use by developing global environmental database systems
- Promote policies to minimise human exposure to toxic chemicals
Key areas of our work
SCRC Czech Republic provides assistance in the following fields (no order of importance):
- Capacity building and training of both technical staff and decision makers in legal, policy and technical issues on implementing BRS Conventions
- Monitoring of toxic chemicals in the environment and humans
- Data generation and efficient data management and use
- Awareness Raising and information exchange
- Cooperation and coordination among global legally binding instruments on chemicals management and waste – synergies within chemicals waste cluster and beyond
- International cooperation to support capacity building
