RECETOX PhD School

From the beginning of 2020, there were many upgrades of our PhD school introduced and implemented. The number of new supervisors increased from 19 to 27, which on one hand enabled to increase the number of PhD students, and on the other hand to decrease the ratio student per supervisor. From the organizational point of view, we have finalized or updated numerous documents setting the rules and policies for the PhD studies in Environmental Health Sciences. Namely, these were:

Financial conditions for PhD students at RECETOX;
Guides and rules regarding mobilities of PhD students;
Instructions for state doctoral exams (2nd year milestone, PhD conference, mini-thesis, presentation);
Organization of teaching assistance duties;
Standards for PhD defences (bligatory in English, two reviewers, at least one international.

The webpage for PhD students and supervisors has been updated to provide most recent relevant information.

Additional services for PhD students

In 2021, we have introduced some advanced services for our PhD students, namely for the international ones requesting more intensive support during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have established the Welcome office for new PhD students, there the students are provided with necessary information on PhD studies rules and proceduresand assisted by the study assistant Tereza Nováková if needed. They are also provided with practical information regarding their stay in the Czech Republic, Brno and Masaryk University and formal requirements (heatlh and social insurance, tax policy, healthcare etc.). For the international students, who are already in the Czech Republic and enrolled, we provide the Onboarding services and continuous support, but also informal meetings to meet their colleagues and learn about the region, e.g. periodic sightseeings and trips around Brno.

From 2020, we are organizing the RECETOX PhD Conference, where the students present their posters, which are assessed by their colleagues. The best posters are awarded the "Best Poster Award". Together with the conference, we organize the state exams, and from 2022 also the annual evaluation of PhD students. The evaluation is realized by the Doctoral Board and both the students and their supervisors participate.
