Audrey Phan, our ESR8, spent her secondment at International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) in Brabrand, Denmark. This internship provided her with invaluable insights into the dynamic realm of industrial research and development. About her experiences, you can read in this report.
Over the past two weeks, I had the incredible privilege of embarking on an internship at IFF in Brabrand, Denmark that was nothing short of enlightening and enriching. This unique experience allowed me to work alongside seasoned professionals, such as Rene Madsen and Marianne, providing me with invaluable insights into the dynamic realm of industrial research and development. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a well-structured and enthusiastic team that prioritizes work-life balance, creating an environment where both personal and professional growth flourish.
Broadening Horizons
One of the most significant aspects of my internship at IFF was the opportunity to broaden my horizons. The project's primary focus was on protocol optimization for the derivatization of thiols compounds, a task that may seem highly specialized but holds immense importance across various industries. The goal was to enhance the detection of trace amounts of volatile compounds, a vital component in fields like the flavor and fragrance industry.
The Power of Advanced Analytical Techniques
During my time at IFF, I had the privilege of diving deep into the world of advanced analytical techniques, particularly Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). This hands-on experience significantly broadened my skillset and deepened my understanding of the cutting-edge tools and methodologies used in laboratory research.
Exploring Beyond the Lab
Beyond the laboratory, I had the chance to explore the scenic surroundings of the IFF location. Strolls around the serene lake and visits to the city center provided moments of peace and relaxation, balancing the dynamic work environment.
I would like to express my gratitude to Rene Madsen, Marianne and Anna for their guidance and support throughout the internship. Their mentorship was instrumental in my learning experience.
We wish you HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024! May it bring you health, love and ever more success in your life.
