Nuria’s secondment at the University of Sheffield

Nuria Rubio, our ESR 12 spent mid-September her secondment at the University of Sheffield (UoS), United Kingdom. She aimed to work on the links of biofilms with other ecosystem compartments, such as snails and fish, in the context of ecosystem functions and services. During her secondment, she collaborated with our ESRs Niamh (ESR9) and Susanna (ESR13), and during WP4 and WP5 workshop, she met Amina (ESR7), Liyan (ESR10), Saul (ESR11), Elvia (ESR14) and Susan (ESR15) to expand upon their case-studies. Our ESR Susanna Mölkänen spent her secondment at the two offices of Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) - Copenhagen (December 2022) and Oslo (January 2023). Saúl's secondment in University of Aarhus

Our ESR Saúl Monteiro Fernandes spent his secondment in May of 2022 with the Climate Stress Lab group at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. He focused on exploring the combined effect of insecticides and drought in different species of springtails and learning how to process soil samples from a field experiment and identify species of Collembola. Liyan at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VUA), the Netherlands

Our ESR Liyan Xie spent her second secondment at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VUA). She performed a full factorial experiment of exposing Folsomia candida, and analyzed the data collected from the previous secondment at ECT. Liyan and Saúl at ECT Oekotoxikologie GmbH

Our ESRs Liyan Xie and Saúl Monteiro Fernandes spent joint secondment at ECT Oekotoxikologie GmbH, Germany. During their secondment, they focused on single and mixture exposure of pesticides on an agricultural field. Kelsey's secondment at NIVA

Our ESR Kelsey Ng spent his secondment at Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) in Oslo, Norway. Kelsey performed a case study in collaboration with our ESR5 Simon Schmid and the involvement of other colleagues at NIVA. The study entailed evidence-mapping of an adverse outcome pathway (AOP) with the findings from the Joint Danube Survey 4 (JDS4) – bridging the determined chemical stressors to the measurable adverse outcomes at the ecological level by the selected AOP.
