Professor Jiří Damborský received the Medal of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic

At its 24th General Assembly, the Learned Society of the Czech Republic awarded Medals for merit in the science development and prizes to distinguished scientists, educators, and talented university and high school students. Jiří Damborský, head of the Loschmidt Laboratories at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University, was awarded for his contribution to the development of science.

Professor Jiří Damborský is an exceptional personality in the field of biochemistry, both in the Czech Republic and worldwide. He conducts research in the field of protein engineering, the development of software tools for the identification and engineering of practically useful proteins. He is also focused on the development of microfluidic platforms. He is interested in the application of machine learning to protein engineering, and he aims to translate results into practice. His research efforts include the development of novel diagnostic methods and biopharmaceuticals for Alzheimer's Disease and Stroke.

Professor Damborsky founded a prestigious research facility, the Loschmidt Laboratories. Cutting-edge research is carried out there under his leadership. Together with his colleagues, he is the author of more than 250 scientific articles in renowned journals, several international patents, and globally used software tools. He mentors young colleagues and educates them to become leaders in Science, Medicine, and Business. He puts great importance on a friendly and creative working environment that honours the name of Jan Josef Loschmidt.
