The “Research Infrastructures in a Changing Global, Environmental and Socio-economical Context” conference organised in the frame of the Belgian Presidency of the European Council, took place on June 4th and June 5th 2024, in Brussels-

The conference focused on 3 main issues:

  • Research Infrastructures (RIs) as key players of strategic autonomy in a changing global context;
  • the socio-economic and environmental impact of RIs and the broad ecosystems of RIs.
  • Research Infrastructures in a Changing Global, Environmental and Socio-economical Context

The fourth, unofficial, topic was the sustainability and future financing of the Research Infrastructure in the perspective of new FP10 progamme. The challenges of financial sustainability were raised by the EC director Anna Panagopoulou, and were discussed heavily both on the stage and during the breaks among all the delegates. While Anna Panagopoulou was presenting the Future vision for the RIs from the point of view of the European Commission, Gelsomina Pappalardo discussed the overview of the ESFRI Landscape Analysis, which presented the current state, vision and plan from the point of view of ESFRI. At the end of the first day, two new ERICs were inaugurated and entered the club of other almost thirty ERICs.

EIRENE RI was represented by Jos Bessems (VITO) and Jan Ostřížek (RECETOX).
