On Friday evening, October 6, 2023, visitors came to the Bohunice campus and immersed themselves in the world of science. Researcher’s Night is the event that provides the public with a unique opportunity to learn more about the topics scientists are working on.
The first RECETOX station took us to the Brno Living Lab, where visitors could learn about sampling and data processing. Did you know that scientists use samples to monitor the state of the environment and take measures to protect it? Visitors tried to collect and analyze samples by themselves, and young researchers had fun putting together a "puzzle" with chemical symbols of danger. As a result, they will now be familiar with these symbols, which they may see daily, for example, on cleaning products. The station was located right next to the exhibition we prepared to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our center. Visitors could learn more details about our journey for a healthy future.
At the second site, the Loschmidt Laboratories, we uncovered the secrets of proteins around us. Visitors learned why fireflies and brittle stars emit light, how to detect seemingly invisible blood traces, and even if it is possible to make artificial meat. One of the big surprises was the discovery that proteins "sing." Visitors could immerse themselves in the fascinating world of proteins and listen to a "symphony" created based on their primary structure. The protein bar and the traditional scientific photo booth were also very popular.
Thanks to all who stopped by our stations and the students and staff who tried to pass on their passion for science.
